PASSIONATE volunteers are determined to “re-establish faith” in a football club with big plans.

Pine Rivers Athletic Football Club (PRAFC) will host its season sign-up day on Saturday.

It comes as the club mounts an ambitious campaign for greater exposure and the appointment of fresh faces in senior management.

“We want to re-establish faith in the club,” club fundraiser and sponsorship co-ordinator Janet Alexander said.

“It is overwhelming but the people are very passionate.

“They have been involved with the club for a long time.

“We have far to go but with more hands it becomes easier and small wins along the way are very encouraging.

“I am doing this for my son and the community and because I think it is worth it.”

Mrs Alexander said there was a groundswell effort taking place at Wendy Allison Park.

PRAFC took over from Pine Rivers United Sports Club in 2018 after the latter ran into financial difficulty.

“We basically had to build our membership from the ground up,” Mrs Alexander said.

“And we’re looking for about 200 new members this season.

“We’ve just elected a new president at our AGM who has a long history with the club.

“We also have a new treasurer and we are doing marketing with an Instagram page for first time.

“We are trying to get more of a presence in the community to encourage people to engage more with physical activity.

“And we’re about to commence a campaign with the community to display their businesses on banners around the field and hopefully gain some revenue for the club.”

Residents interested in signing up can participate in free football drills on Saturday or see how much oomph they can muster with their strikes with a speed radar on hand.

“We ultimately want to be super slick like Albany Creek Excelsior Football Club which has around 1000 members,” Mrs Alexander said.

“Currently we only have one men’s and one women’s team.

“And we are keen to attract more girls because it is no longer just a boys sport.”

Football fans can sign-up from 0900am to 12pm at the PRAFC clubhouse.
